What is Evolution

Evolution can be described as the changes of characteristics in living things over many generations.  Humans and animals have been almost the same over many generations. If you look at the outside of our body, we are all different; we all have different characteristics because of our different DNA. We may look somewhat like our parents, however not as much, we all have 2 arms, 2 legs, a nose, mouth, 2 ears etc. But if you go a little deeper and you look at the bone structure, or the blueprint for our body, it stayed the same for thousands of years. However if you go even more back in history, about a million years ago, before reading and writing, our ancestor also had the same features as us, 2 eyes, a nose, a mouth etc.  However they may have had more hair on their bodies, and were not as smart. Even more back into the future, we could have had gils and fins and swam under water, however have evolved over time to look like we do now. The theory of evolution states that every living thing that exists today has the same common ancestor, which lived millions and billions of years ago. We all have something in common with that ancestor. It is hard to imagine that we share something of the same with all living things on the planner, we don’t look the same because over time, organisms change their characteristics to suit their environment and needs. The way this change occurs is when the letter/gasses in the DNA form a mutation in the strands and so the body changes.
