Could Aladdin's 'Flying' Carpet Become A Reality?

A student from Princeton invented a model of the same carpet that Aladdin flew that could someday be a real-life flying carpet. His floating model is a small 4-inch sheet of transparent plastic fixed with strinds that can conduct electricity. As the energy flows through the 'carpet', it forms tiny air pockets underneath, which lift it up horizontally and also help propel it forward. But, in order to 'fly' the air pockets under the transparent plastic have to be trapped between the sheet and the ground, which means that the sheet has to be quite close to the ground. Also, it can only go one centimeter per second, and going forward is limited. Maybe soon we will all be flying around like Aladdin and Jasmine.

This is so incredibly amazing. I would have never been able to think of that being possible, and especially making the carpet fly. It’s great that they are working on it and not giving up. I am sure that in the near future we will all be flying. This shoes that anything is possible, even things that happen in fairy tales, people just need to work hard to get it and believe it is possible.

An "uber sophisticated telescope, innovatively dubbed - European Extremely Large Telescope or E-ELT" will help us see if there is any form of life on the other planets. It was made by "European Southern Observatory," a association of 15 European countries and Brazil, the telescope costs over $1.5 billion USD and should be ready by 2020. Construction will not begin for at least a couple of years. The telescope will have a 40-meter (131 ft.) mirror put together from over 1,000 individual hexagonal parts. The "'World's Biggest Eye On The Sky'" will be 3,060 meter tall (10,000 ft.) It has enough power to find any very old galaxies. 

I think that this is very amazing what they are doing and i think they will definitely find something there, might not be aliens, but it sure will be something. And about that telescope, on this picture, well it does look big, but I wonder how big it is really when you come in front of it. I believe that it is big enough for hundreds of people to go inside it at the same time. Eve if I don't believe in aliens, I am still exited for them finding out more about our universe. It is fun to know about other living creatures just like us, we are also creatures, on other planets.

Continuation of the last current event

Last week, "NASA's 6.5 ton Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite (UARS) was falling down to earth and the Space Agency did not know when or where it would land." It fell 12.00am EST on Saturday, September 24th and no one was injured. Then scientists started searching for the missing parts since it was unknown where the satellite crashed. After four days, they found it. It fell in part of the Southern Pacific Ocean, a region that has no population of humans. In October or early November when a German astronomy satellite falls back to Earth. It is 2.5 tons, it is smaller than UARS However more than 30 pieces of the broken-up satellite are expected to fall on Earth.

I am very shocked that the satellite actually fell, because I did not know anything about that. I thought that it wont even fall, but I was wrong. This really shows that you can predict something of happening, because sometimes during the procedure of happening something is different. I hope that the same happens with the second German satellite.

This Friday - Watch Out For The Satellite Debris Freefalling From Space!

NASA discovered that "Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite (UARS)", which is 5,900 kilograms, is crashing down from space on earth on Friday, September 23rd. But the experts at NASA think that the satellite will separate into pieces while coming threw the atmosphere, and that only 26 pieces weighing 532 kilograms will actually hit earth. It is not sure the right location where it will fall. The only continent is for sure safe is North America.  


I think that this is amazing what they found out, but I dont think it will happen, in fact it didn't. It really thought me that even the best machinery can sometimes be broken. I actually knew about this even before I read this article. But maybe I am wrong, maybe it did happen, but I didn't know about it. It is really to think that a machine something so expensive might fall to earth and be crushed in peaces. But all we can do is wait and see.

Humans have been in the top of the food chain because of their inelegance, but research has showed that other animals have a similar inelegance. The monkeys have been at the top of the list of most inelegant animal which is not a surprise since they share 99 percent of our DNA. But is changing. Found only in the "remote South Pacific Island of New Caledonia," the bird is the same as any ordinary crow except for its incredible tool use. Which top not only most birds but also animals that were there before us including monkeys.

Researchers at Oxford University and the University of Auckland, have been paying much attention on the New Caledonian Crow for a lot of years now, and what they have discovered so far, is very interesting. Crows use many types of objects which they make themselves from trees and bushes is not the amazing part,  What is amazing is that they can use the good objects to get something done.

I choose this article because it is a bit connected to our unit. Also because I wanted to see what animal is almost more intelligent than the monkey I thought that was a miracle.  I really didn't know and dint think there was an animal that is smarter that the monkey. Well because they share 99 percent of our DNA. I know that this information is true because they have a video of a crow in action. I have learned that not only the well known animals can be very intelligent; it can be once that were just discovered.

Having access to the cheap electricity most of us don’t take it as a big deal. However, this is not the same for many people around the world, especially in third countries where the poor people live in tiny homes that are most of the time made from cardboard or other weak materials. But, for the people that live in the San Vicente Village in San Pedro, in the Philippines the problem is even worse - Their houses are always filled with darkness. And, it’s not because the sun does not shine in the Philippines, but because of the thin plywood homes are packed in so tightly together that there is no room for windows so that means the sun light cant come threw. To make everything worse, the people were trying to separate the rooms; the people hang curtains inside, making the homes even more dark. The only light that could go through their homes are single bulbs powered by electric generators. Since they have to be on 24 hours a day, it is very expensive and it costs $6USD a month – That is a fortune, in a country where the average amount of money you get paid monthly is between $100-$150USD. But, thanks to a local philanthropist the people living there can finally seeing the day light! The Isang Litrong Liwanag (A liter of light) project, was inspired by MIT engineer Amy Smith's bottle bulb that she invented for Haiti. It involves constructing a small hole in the iron roof of the houses and fitting in a bulb - Except, this is not your ordinary light bulb - But a recycled 1.5 liter plastic bottle filled with water and a little chlorine bleach. The bottle bulb reflects the sun's rays, creating 'light' that is as bright as a 55-watts bulb! The water does not get moldy, and each bulb that costs only $1USD to install, can last up to 5 years, before it needs to be replaced.

I choose this article because it stud out for me. It was different, and also I choose it because it is taking stuff that can save our planet if we recycle it, but since most of the people in the world don't, we can use it for other things like helping other poor people that need help. From this article I have learned that not only money can help the poor, but also our inventions. I knew that the information is true as soon as I saw a video that shows them actually in action, the link to this video is at the bottom. Once I read this article I was happy that some people are actually doing something about the loss of plastic and helping other poor people.

This brings a lot of scientific knowledge to us because I leaned that when you mix water with little chlorine bleach, that can create light on the sun. After reading this article I have absolutely no questions about it.
